Simply Seeing Meditation

Introduction

True healing and joy can only emerge where thought is not. Many methods of meditation are extensions of thought. Simply Seeing Meditation is different because there is no method.

Simply Seeing Meditation invites you to increase awareness of your own thought patterns. The gradual increase in awareness allows you to step out of these thoughts and very naturally, without any force or effort, experience joy and peace.

Groups are kept small and instruction is given individually to help participants become aware of their unique thought patterns.

The Problem

Our belief that we are separate and need to get somewhere create a feeling of being incomplete. We go about our daily activities in a state of doing and although we have moments of happiness, these are always temporary. We are left with a feeling of urgency that we must do something else to be complete. We live trying to get somewhere and very rarely embrace where we are now.

This state of living in the future or the past breeds fear, anxiety, anger, frustration, powerlessness, hopelessness, depression, self-judgment, and on the list goes. To counter these feelings we engage in countless “relief” activities that soon become addictions: the compulsive use of drugs, sex, alcohol, work, sleep, shopping, physical exercise, self-help books and workshops, and on and on. We seek answers from doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, priests and gurus hoping they can solve our problems for us. We search outside of ourselves for an answer and this further strengthens our compulsive doing and feeling of being incomplete.

The Solution

Awareness of what is, is all that’s needed. Simply seeing without judgment, without choice, allows us to move beyond a state of doing into a state of being. As we stop resisting what is, something powerful happens. The unhappiness and sense of disconnection melt away and we feel full and complete with life. We no longer run from here and now to get to there and then. Action that springs from this state is whole and complete. We no longer act out of a sense of lack.

Simply Seeing Meditation is a means to develop this non-judgmental awareness that is the key to moving beyond our state of confusion and unhappiness. It progresses naturally over a series of stages and each stage brings us closer to accepting what is and developing the ability to simply see.

Easy to Learn

Since there is nothing one must do, Simply Seeing Meditation is extremely simple. This is what makes it different from most meditation practices and it is also what makes it easy to learn. There is no need to push thoughts away. There is no method one must apply through force or exercise. There is no activity one must sit and practice. Life is not something that needs to be forced into being. It simply is. We are distanced from it by our efforts. From the very beginning we learn to simply see what is, instead of pursuing a pre-determined objective of what we believe should be. This allows what is to come forth. There are no mantras, no breathing exercises, no chants, no special movements or postures, only natural awareness of what is, natural awareness of consciousness.

By awakening the ability to simply see, the learner can start bringing about change from the inside out, and progress continuously without effort.

No Harmful Side-Effects

Because the effects brought about through simply seeing are the result of life being allowed to naturally flow again, there is no danger of "going in the wrong direction". Its effects are far reaching, it is easy to learn and if “done” as indicated with a gradual strengthening of awareness, there is no danger.

Help Self - Help the World

Today we face a world where stress abounds and where pollution in many forms is part of our daily lives. Most of us live in a state of incessant doing and running from here to there. We are disconnected from life by our doing and have come to rely on external sources and methods we believe we must force ourselves to follow to find happiness. In this state of alienation, confusion, illness and fear, we perpetuate a world that reflects all these. Simply seeing can shift our internal state of consciousness and foster a sense of connection, clarity, love, joy and health. When we act from these states of being, we necessarily create a world that reflects them.
